Sander Kuiper

Commercial Trainee
At first I was worried there might be a formal atmosphere, but even from the first meeting I realized it is very informal here. You can just pop in and see anyone, I really like that.
  1. You joined us here as an intern, how did that come about?

When I was looking for a company for my graduation internship, I was in contact with four companies, and one of them was a subsidiary of HTG, coincidentally! My friends had already heard of HTG and they helped convince me that HTG would be the perfect place for me. HTG is an international B2B business and that was exactly what I wanted for my graduation project. I am crazy about international trade, and I worked for a German B2B enterprise in the past. I’ve always been very interested in languages, and HTG is the perfect place to use my language skills. Of course, my choice for HTG was also based on my prospects for the future, because my internship was also the completion of my studies. Traveling, visiting trade shows, and maintaining contacts with foreign customers: all the things that suit me to a tee.

  2. And how have you found HTG so far?

Great! It’s a young team, both the interns and the employees. At first I was worried there might be a formal atmosphere, but even from the first meeting I realized it is very informal here. You can just pop in and see anyone, I really like that.

  3. What is a typical working day for you?

I am currently working at the Liquors department, where we focus on the sale of spirits. I am assisting my colleague Vincent; I help with maintaining customer contact and I provide the necessary documentation for the customers. Also, I resolve problems on a regular basis. This could be customers who contact us because they’ve received the wrong product. Something else we did recently was a staff outing, we went out to dinner with the department and we had a great time.

  4. Which experience made the biggest impression?

A while back, I attended my first meeting with a big customer. I hope to attend many more in future, and eventually head up my own meetings, but this first one was quite an impressive experience that taught me a lot.

  5. Can you tell us your plans for the future?

During my internship, I spoke with one of the Sales Directors who also joined HTG as an intern. He leads his own department now. That really impressed me: you can really achieve something here if you have the ambition and the right attitude. I have now been working as a Trainee at HTG’s Liquors department for the last few months. My role is mostly supporting for now, but I would like to manage my own customers in the future, and travel and add big value to this company. With HTG’s many foreign locations, I would really love to live and work abroad for a while. There’s plenty on my to-do list!
