Rommert Rijpkema

Process Engineer
There are new developments every week, each with their own challenges. I see the results of what I do every day, and I enjoy my work because of its diversity!
  1. Rommert, can you explain what you do at HTG?

I started as a Trainee and at that time, my specific range of tasks still had to be defined. It was challenging to start a job on this premise, but also very exciting. It does mean you can really carve out your own direction. I am currently a Process Engineer, analyzing the logistics processes and making improvements. At the same time, I also act as Operations Assistant; I can cover for the Operations Manager in his absence or assist him where necessary. I have lots of contact with colleagues on a daily basis and I try to ensure we are functioning as a team.

  2. Why did you choose HTG?

The interview process made me feel that I would have good opportunities at HTG. It could have been just a great spiel about promotion, but I did have faith everything would be just fine. Especially because my role was still so undefined, it worked in my favor to have a say in my tasks and responsibilities. I gradually identified my interests within the organization and now I am in a position I really enjoy.

  3. HTG is a large company, how do you know you are making a difference?

I have been here for about nine months now and I genuinely feel I can make a difference. There was often very little time in Logistics for looking at processes in more depth, but I can invest my time doing just that. Over the last few months, I have noticed that matters I tackled or raised have already been implemented. Of course, processes change all the time, so I am already improving some solutions that have already become obsolete. Anything that has been devised or created can be put into practice very quickly at HTG, and you can sometimes see the results as soon as the very next day. That’s a great feeling.

  4. What makes you look forward to coming to the office on Monday mornings?

It’s going to be a cliche, but every day genuinely brings something new. In my role, I am involved in many different issues, which means I’ve learned a lot about the company in a short time. There are new developments every week, each with their own challenges. I see the results of what I do every day, and I enjoy my work because of its diversity!

  5. You joined us not so long ago; what are your ambitions?

I’ve given it a lot of thought lately, and I definitely see myself working at HTG into the future. At the moment, we are busy putting together a multidisciplinary team that will review the processes throughout the Supply Chain and complete projects aimed at improving certain segments. This will throw up plenty of challenges for a while, thanks to HTG’s continuous growth.
